Why Eureka Squared Has My Math Teacher Heart Rooted in Joy

A Fourth Grade Teacher’s Take on Our Favorite Math Curriculum

When our school first rolled out Eureka Squared, I’ll admit...I was a little hesitant to dig in. New curriculum? Again? But after just one year of using it in my fourth grade garden (ahem...classroom), I’ve become a full-blown Eureka enthusiast. Let me tell you why this program is helping both my students and me grow in all the right ways.

Fluency That Spirals and Sticks

Eureka Squared starts each lesson with a fast-paced fluency warm-up that feels like a brain stretch and a review all in one. These quick activities bring back prior learning, reinforce key skills, and gently prepare students for the day’s lesson—all without a single worksheet shuffle. It's like compost for their math memory...rich, layered, and totally effective.

Real-World Math With Hands-On Fun

Eureka’s Concept Development section is where the magic blooms. Each lesson includes real-life problems, video clips, hands-on materials, and interactive tools. It’s not just paper-and-pencil practice...students are moving, thinking, building, talking, and connecting. This garden of engagement keeps everyone active and growing.

Collaboration and Conversations That Count

Let’s be real...some of the best learning happens when students share their thinking. Eureka Squared encourages partner work, small group talk, and full-class discussions that help ideas blossom. The questions in the Teacher Edition are perfect for digging deeper and clearing up any weeds (ahem, misconceptions) before they spread.

Problem Sets That Start With Support and End With Confidence

I love how the Problem Sets are designed. They begin with fill-in-the-blank and scaffolded questions to support student understanding, then gradually release responsibility with more independent tasks. And there’s plenty of white space for students to show their work...no cramming numbers into the corners of the page here!

Assessments That Actually Help Me Teach

Each lesson ends with a built-in Exit Ticket (yes, it’s already printed in the workbook!), and every topic includes a quiz to check in. The End of Module Assessments are available in both paper and digital formats...and when students take them online, they’re automatically scored! 🌟 The reports break it all down by student, standard, and class, giving me everything I need to guide future instruction. It’s like having a data garden that sorts itself.

Final Thoughts

Eureka Squared isn’t just another math program...it’s a well-tended framework that helps both teachers and students thrive. With built-in fluency, meaningful problem solving, space for exploration, and flexible assessment options, it checks all the boxes. I’ve seen my students grow stronger as mathematicians and collaborators, and I feel more rooted in my instruction than ever.

If your school is using Eureka Squared—or considering planting it soon...I hope this peek into my classroom helps you see just how beautifully it can grow.

Let’s be real: reviewing for Topic Quizzes and End of Module Assessments in Eureka Math Squared can feel like a lot. You want your students to feel confident and prepared, but you also don’t want to spend hours reinventing the wheel. That’s why I’m sharing some of my favorite ways to make math review meaningful, manageable, and even fun! 1. Morning Work or Homework Review Sheets Multiple choice and short response worksheets are perfect for sneaking in a little extra review without overwhelming your schedule.  I like to use these as: Morning work to settle students into the day Independent center work during rotations Quick-check homework assignments before a quiz or test They give students targeted practice on specific skills, and the format mirrors what they’ll see on assessments—so there are no surprises when test time comes around. Whether you’re a seasoned educator or freshly planted, I’m so glad you’ve found your way to this little patch of the internet . I believe teaching is a lot like gardening: 🌱 You plant the seeds of knowledge. 🌦 You water them with encouragement. ☀️ And with a little light (and maybe some classroom chaos), students blossom in ways you never imagined! Here, I’ll be sharing lesson plans, time-saving tips, printable resources, and bursts of inspiration— all rooted in joy and growth. I hope to save you time, spark your creativity, and maybe even make you chuckle after a long day of wrangling wildflowers (also known as 9-year-olds). Some fun facts as we get to know each ...
